AAPN 2017: A Year of Staggering Industry Actions

The AAPN leadership and members can look back on 2017 as our busiest and most innovative year of the 23 years Sue and I have worked together here.  Just a short list includes this:

Highly attended and exclusive-to-AAPN Regional Conferences including for 80 in LA in Jan 2017, 72 in Seattle in August and 92 in Dallas in September.  These conferences were the idea of the president Kevin Williams and current president Tony Anzovino. By taking our conference to the staff ‘out there’ who do so much of the work, we gave each of them a safety net and a way to raise their Apparel IQ they never had before.

We were invited to give industry talks at such wide ranging events as the Dallas AATCC Student SeminarMAGIC in Las Vegas moderating a panel of AAPN members Tony Anzovino, Ed Gribbin and Steve Hawkins; the PGA Show in Orlando with a panel of Chuy Canahuati, Ed Gribbin and Phil Poel; a seminar at Guatemala’s Apparel Sourcing Show; a talk and panel at Lectra’s customer event.

Our Annual Conference drew nearly 230 executives and featured a program where each of the 8 sessions generated valuable take aways. Our Leadership Forum in Antigua Guatemala generated new programs and reshaped the Regional Conferences.

We went to meetings with members in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Honduras and Nicaragua. We also hosted Atlanta-based industry leaders to a private AAPN Reception in Atlanta.

Virtually by herself, Sue rolled out three new technologies: the Interactive AAPN Member Google Map; a rich and refined AAPN Cell phone app; and a busy, dynamic, inclusive AAPN online Blog.

Looking into 2018 look for more of the same, MUCH more, including more Regional Conferences; a major pro:Americas Summit conference in Honduras; adaptation of the Regional Conference agenda for brands and retailers; and an important delegation to Hong Kong to meet with both GAFTI and Edwin Keh, CEO, Hong Kong Research Institute of Textile and Apparel.

2017 set up 2018 which will do the same for years to come……..AAPN, 37 years and counting !!!!
